I currently subscribe via Kindle Newsstand to the publications below. The apps are invariably included in their own digital subscriptions, which deliver content by email and on the web as well. They want direct access to their readers via their own phone apps, as the WSJ has. I suspect that the publishers are behind this change, not Amazon. To quote from the About screen, it is "Powered by TECNAVIA." Each daily app edition contains both a pixel-perfect facsimile of the page layout of the print edition, and the ability (by tapping) to "zoom into" a single article in an enlarged, easy-to-read plain text view.Īt the moment the iOS app for the New York Times is vastly inferior to either the Kindle edition or what TECNAVIA provides for the Wall Street Journal.

I have found, though, the iOS app for the daily Wall Street Journal to be quite fine. These made it easy to skim, particularly in large issues of a pub like the daily New York Times. In addition to the sheer legibility/readability of the Kindle screen display, I liked the Kindle editions for the Table of Contents feature and other navigational aids. I have Googled the phrasse "Amazon Kindle stops newspaper subscriptions" and have found very little on the Web, only this post and Amazon's press release.
